Eshmá - Acogida, Escucha, Reparación

Who we are

We are a team with years of experience and extensive skills in accompanying people. Our journey includes creating spaces for listening and welcoming, to develop reparation processes (restorative justice), the creation of healing and therapeutic conversations, knowledge of legal frameworks, familiarity with institutional and ecclesial dynamics, etc.

Among our members there are people who have gone through victimization for sexual abuse and have experiences the programs we propose at eshmá. Our programs are designed therefore, not only from a professional perspective, but also from personal experience.

Promoters of the project

Juan Carlos González Martín

Juan Carlos has Degrees in Education, Social Work, and Religious Sciences. He graduated with a Law Degree in Legal Sciences. After a journey in the formal education of children, adolescents, and youth, these last two decades have been dedicated to accompanying people in situations of serious social exclusion. He has promoted and managed projects aimed at meeting the real needs of these vulnerable groups in society. His own personal experience has led him in recent years to share therapeutic spaces with victims of sexual abuse in childhood and to participate in social and institutional initiatives to promote awareness, prevention, and social recognition for the phenomenon of abuse in the present and victims of the past.

“With the help of the people who form eshmá‘s heart today, I looked for a way out that would alleviate my own pain that has accompanied me since I was sexually abused as a child. I discovered the only way to look forward was to give voice to my wound and place the truth in a respectful and honest space of listening, demanding recognition, apologies, and reparation for the damage done, without renouncing the demands for responsibility. I understood that the hour of truth is not always marked by the court clock. As I came face to face with my guilt, shame, and fear, they dissipated, when finally, I was able to defend the then defenseless child without the need to hurt anyone. I am here to share and accompany, whoever needs it, with humility.”

Miguel Ángel González Martín

Miguel has a Bachelor of Law and a degree in Religious Sciences. He has studies of Psychology and is a Gestalt therapist. He also has a Master’s Degree in Coaching of People and Teams. He is a Specialist in Systemic Interventions in Organizations.

After a long career working in an international cooperation, social intervention, and the public sector, Miguel is currently dedicated to accompanying and offering consultation to people and organizations in their growth processes and training.

“To witness the healing power of compassionate listening, to accompany others into the descent of their well of pain, to contemplate broken humanities begin to recompose…all this brings me closer to my own wounds and pains. It relieves them. It mends what is broken in me. It humbles me to glimpsesomething bigger within the love that is in people’s hearts”.

Carlos Romera Antón

Graduate in Law, Master in Criminology, postgraduate in mediation, victimization and restorative justice. Social Educator. Conflict mediator and trainer. Collaborator in several masters in different universities. Founding partner of Centro Universitario de Resolución de Conflictos-GEUZ. Member of the mediation and Restorative Justice team of Berriztu, within the Araba/Álava Penitentiary Center. He has experience as a mediator, lawyer and coordinator of the Criminal Mediation Services of Barakaldo and Bilbao.

In recent years he has been combining mediation and facilitation work in restorative processes with educational tasks in the field of social exclusion. He is also a member of the Ethics Committee of Social Intervention of Bizkaia, of the Basque Council for the participation of victims of terrorism and vice-president of the Forum of Associations of Education in Human Rights and for Peace.

“I have had the privilege of accompanying in their processes of growth and personal evolution, both those who have caused great suffering, as well as those other people who have been victims or survivors. Whenever someone decides to get involved in a restorative process, one can see the healing and pedagogical power that lies behind the capacity to assume responsibility and to repair or compensate for the damage in its different dimensions. I have no doubt that when a process is truly restorative, it constitutes a milestone that transforms people.”

Mónica Sáenz Alonso

Degree in Pedagogy, Postgraduate in Mediation and Conflict Resolution. With extensive experience in the world of social interaction, helping families and adolescents in vulnerable and unprotected situations, for 18 years in the Specialized Education Program for Adolescents of the Berriztu Association. “I look at Eshma and I realize how fortunate I am to share a way of seeing and a way of doing: people always matter, their pain and their damage. To be aware of the healing power of being aware of the origin, to be able to express it, to feel accompanied, supported, and to find ways to transform it and even to feel repaired, is extraordinary. And to be part of these healing processes that the protagonists, both those who have been harmed and those who have caused the damage, and to see how they build bridges, transform damage, promote progress and create spaces of wellbeing, gives meaning to this world”.

Miguel Matute

Graduate in Law. Postgraduate in Spiritual Accompaniment. Diploma in Safeguarding from the Gregorian University.

Practicing lawyer professionally dedicated to the world of addictions and mental health for decades, he combines his professional work with spiritual and personal growth accompaniment.

“When you come to listen, you start perceiving anguish, anxiety, shame, fear and anger. If you dare to go a step further, you encounter pain, suffering, injustice….and evil. And if you are foolish enough to dare to delve deeper, you discover that everything is animated by Goodness, Tenderness and Life that break through, overwhelmingly and without asking permission, healing and repairing all creatures. A true miracle that changes your vision of the world”.
